In the morning, when we wake up, there we are, in front of our closet and searching for the outfit that will be our choice for the day. The coffee has not kicked in yet and we ask ourselves if today is a ‘let’s do this‘ kind of day or a ‘anything will do’ day.
And this is where everything becomes more interesting, whether we know it or not, the clothes we choose tell a story about us and reflect our mood and what we are feeling now.
And as we stroll among hangers and drawer bottoms, we find pieces of clothing that turn into tickets to places and moments so well kept in our memories.
Suddenly, the concert t-shirt from 2005, washed so many times that it has practically lost its colour and the band’s name is barely readable, transports us to that electrifying night, guitar chords vibrating in the air as we scream the lyrics as if the world depended on it. It’s more than cotton, it’s a piece of rebellious youth, preserved in a size medium!
And then, our eyes meet that ‘power suit’. We all have one! It seems tailor-made, elegant, and stitched to scream ‘I am the perfect candidate‘, louder than our resume ever could. By wearing it, we can almost hear the echo of our rehearsed answers and feel the butterflies in our stomach. This suit is not just hanging there, it is a testimony of the moments when we dared to take a step forward, to achieve something more.
And suddenly our closet is more than a museum of past escapades, it is also a crystal ball of futures yet to be unveiled. It reminds us, that dress or suit we bought for a special occasion and has been waiting to be worn, still with the tags hanging. It is not just a meticulously arranged piece of clothing, it is an expectation and promise to ourselves of moments we will grasp, a visual representation of ‘this will be a day to remember’.
This magical world between doors and drawers is where the past and future meet, creating a unique narrative of who we were, who we are, and who we aspire to be.
So, let’s toast to the adventures our closets have witnessed, to those still to come, and to the turning of pages that is far from over.
And about your closet? What stories does it tell? Any special piece behind a story you would like to share?!
I would love to know more!
